"The Blacksmith"

"The Blacksmith" was painted in Edwards Blacksmith Shop in Fromberg, Montana. Loren recalls teetering with his easel on a large pile of scrap iron, striving to capture both warm and cool light and accurately portray the color of the hot horseshoe in Everett's tongs. Loren painted the Percheron draft horse from life in a stable in Red Lodge, Montana.
